I wanted to talk for a moment about the movie “Birds of Prey”. Yesterday it was announced that the movie was going to me listed as “Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey” on the websites of top theater chains like Regal Cinemas, Cinemark and AMC Theatres. This was done so moviegoers searching for “Harley Quinn” would see her in the title of the movie and not get confused.
I understand why this move was made, but I think it does a disservice to the movie. I’ve seen the movie, and it’s good. It should be doing better at the box office, in my opinion. However, (small spoilers ahead) while the story focuses on Harley Quinn for much of the movie, the movie is really about the formation of a group of heroes. Harley Quinn, for all her appeal, is a villain. I think it’s important to not downplay the good guys in this movie. I’m glad that Warner Bros. didn’t officially change the name of the movie, but I think the Theatres should keep the name ‘Birds of Prey’ also.
I also think it’s important for the full title, “Birds of Prey, and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn” to appear on the Blue-Ray and DVD release, as well as the IMDB page, and so on.
That’s it for now. See you at the movies!
