Terminator: Dark Fate review

After all these years, we finally got another good Terminator sequel, with Terminator: Dark Fate. The best in the Terminator series since 1991's Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which this movie is a direct sequel to, therefore wiping out the memory of the 3rd, 4th and 5th movies in this long-running franchise. Ranking all the films, I loved the first two Terminator films, 3 and 4 were crap, and Genisys was okay. However, THIS was such a massive improvement, especially with the original creator James Cameron returning to write and produce the film, while still working on Alita: Battle Angel with Robert Rodriguez and the long awaited Avatar sequels.

The film's plot exploits the story of Sarah Connor (played by Linda Hamilton from the first 2 films), The T-1000 (played by Arnold Schwartzenager), and a young cyborg human hybrid named Grace (played by Mackenzie Davis), as they protect a young girl from a newly modified liquid Terminator from the future.

Now, let's about my thoughts on this movie. The cast is awesome. To think they got Linda and Arnold back for this entry is such a miracle, given that they are so well defined with these roles. The special effects are very unbelievable. I honestly do not know how much was CG and how much was physical.

While there are more positives to this movie, it is not without flaws. The plot is way too much in love with the original 2 movies, though not like The Force Awakens, but more like Mad Max: Fury Road. So, that's not a big deal here, but the real problem is the amount of what we get with the character of John Connor from the second movie. I won't spoil it, but it was delibriately uncalled for.

Overall, this movie is a return to form for the Terminator series, but here's my biggest problem, before I finish and that is the ending. There is no cliffhanger of post-credits scene which is good, but to think they want to make 2 more movies after this is a long shot, because I think the series has ran it's course, by now. But it's still a good movie. Definitely worth checking out, for yourself. Worth any price.

Go see it, now. I give this movie 8.5 out of 10.
